International specialist insurer Hiscox has appointed Jerry Cox as chief financial officer for the US.

As the new CFO of Hiscox in the US, Cox will be based in Atlanta, GA and will report to Hiscox US CEO Kevin Kerridge.

Cox joins Hiscox from The Hartford, where he previously served as a divisional CFO across the company’s multiple business areas, such as commercial, specialty, corporate functions, technology, operations, and claims. He spent just over two decades at The Hartford serving roles of increasing responsibility, and has experience leading large teams of financial professionals.

A graduate of Bucknell University, Cox earned his MBA from the University of Connecticut School of Business, and completed General Electric’s Management Development Program.

“As we build on our position as America’s leading digital small business insurer, the appointment of a CFO with Jerry’s breadth of experience will prove invaluable; he’ll be an earnest partner and advocate for other business functions, and a tremendous guardian of our P&L,” commented Kevin Kerridge on Cox’s appointment. “Jerry is highly collaborative and a perfect match with our values. I’m excited about the coaching and expertise he will bring to the business.”

For the first nine months of 2021, Hiscox US saw its GWP decline 2.8% to $674.1 million, from $693.3 million in the same period for 2020 – but this was something the insurer expected due to planned reductions in its US broker channel. Hiscox exited some $75 million of large cyber, stand-alone general liability and other broker channel business.
