NFL on? Check Sitting on the sofa eating? Check. House on fire? Much more likely than the rest of the nation if you live in Texas, according to a State Farm report in the Wall Street Journal.

According to State Farm analysis you (and your clients) are twice as likely to set your residence ablaze while cooking on Thanksgiving as any other November day. The good news is that claims for this type of fire are gradually declining after spiking as we entered the new millennium.

One bit of good news, though—claims for cooking-related fires, both throughout November and on the holiday itself, have been declining in recent years after spiking around the start of the decade.

Why the welcome decrease in claims? A decline in the deep –fried turkey trend apparently.

And if you’re looking for a chart of who sets fire to greasy food on Thanksgiving most? Texas is a clear leader in State Farm’s figures (39 from 2005 to 2014) Illinois and Ohio share the silver medal with 28 and Pennsylvania and New York taking fourth and fifth places with 27 and 25 claims.
