Diversified Insurance Group of Salt Lake City has been on a tear. Revenue, profit and headcount are all on the rise at this 50+ employee agency.
The feather in the cap—or at least the latest feather—came this week when The Salt Lake Tribune recognized the company as the best small business to work for in the Salt Lake Area. The contest is employee driven, with employees voluntarily rating their employers.
President and CEO Spence Hoole says he operates by the 95% rule, which is that he tries to say yes to 95% of what employees suggest.
The company offers generous benefits, of course, which leads to low turnover, but Hoole told the Tribune that he also tries to create and maintain a culture in which employees feel empowered. He added that he want employees to feel that they are “treated as equals,” that what they say matters. “That kind of culture and environment fosters a lot of good things,” he added.
