To mark the entry of new blood in Selma’s insurance industry, veteran Jere Peak and his son Owen announced the creation of the eponymous Peak Insurance, a report by Selma Times Journal said.

Peak Insurance will spin off from the Morris Agency, which consolidated with Tate, Heinz, Ellis and Sexton in 2013.

The firm will also have under its umbrella O.M. Hendricks, which dates back to 1902, The Day Agency, C.W. Hooper Agency, Mallory Privett Agency, Mabry Securities, Hardy & Heinz Insurance, The Bradbury Agency, Hendricks & Tate, and Doug Chandler Agency.

“It has been our goal to market both of these respected agencies under one brand,” Jere was quoted as saying in the report. “We’ve gone from all these great names, and now we’re consolidating all these agencies under one name.”

Jere started his insurance career in 1977 when he joined Gulf America Fire Insurance Company in Montgomery. He then started a partnership with his friend John Morris, at the Morris Agency.

He became part owner of The Morris Agency in 1982, and sole proprietor in 2012.

Owen followed in Jere’s footsteps in entering the insurance industry, first taking on a claims representative job with Auto Owners. He moved back to Selma in 2012 to join his father at the Morris Agency.
