The owner of an insurance agency in Las Vegas has announced that he is running for Congress.

Jack Love, of Jack Love Farmers Insurance, is the first Democrat to announce his bid for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. Also vying for the same spot is Democrat Susie Lee, who last year unsuccessfully ran for the state’s 4th district. Four Republicans have also filed to run for the seat.

This is Love’s first bid for a major elected office.

“The only thing I’ve ever run for is Summerlin North Homeowner’s Association, and I won. So I’m 1-and-0,” the 51-year-old Love told Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Love revealed yesterday that he plans to file his candidacy paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission in the days to come.

“My reason for running is to reverse the ongoing destruction of the middle-class in America. I am devoted to common sense solutions,” he wrote on his Crowdpac page, which has managed to raise half of his target campaign funding goal as of this writing.

Although Love expressed his support for the Affordable Care Act, he believes that a single-payer system (wherein the government covers all healthcare costs) is “the only long-term option.”

He also said that the government has long benefited “the mega-rich,” ignoring the working class.

“The pendulum needs to swing back the other way and help your average, everyday citizen,” he stated.

Love also made clear that he plans to run a campaign based on grassroots support and social media.

“I don’t expect to end up with a million dollars in my account,” he commented.

He is aware that he is an underdog in this race, and he is anticipating much bigger names to also run for the congressional seat. However, Love remains undeterred.

“Stranger things have happened,” he said.
