A high-value option for policy holders in the coming months would be expanded home and auto insurance coverage, taking into account weather reports of possibly freezing rain and extreme weather conditions during the holidays.

Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak called on residents to review their policies, and insurance providers to facilitate expanded coverage.

“It’s important to understand what is and isn’t covered by your home and auto insurance. Winter storm damage can be financially devastating to a family without the proper insurance coverage,” Doak told The Daily Ardmoreite.

It should be remembered that standard homeowners and renters insurance does not cover flood damage. On the other hand, flood insurance would cover damage from melting snow that enters a home from the ground up.

Meanwhile, comprehensive auto insurance should cover vehicular damage caused by ice or trees.
