Aon and The Doctors Company have announced senior leadership appointments aimed at reinforcing expertise in two areas under growing pressure: complex commercial risk and the evolving demands of healthcare liability. The moves see Aon install a new global chief executive for its commercial risk business, while The Doctors Company adds two physician-executives to its board of governors.
Aon has appointed Christian Hoffman (pictured) as global chief executive officer of commercial risk, effective June 1, placing a long-time specialty and financial lines leader at the head of one of the firm’s core global businesses. Hoffman will report to Joe Peiser, chief executive officer of risk capital for Aon, and will work with regional teams and Aon Business Services to deliver integrated, analytics-enabled solutions for clients.
The firm said Hoffman will help advance its strategy of connecting clients’ increasingly complex risk needs with the most efficient forms of risk capital. Peiser said Hoffman’s experience across cyber, financial lines and emerging risk positions him well to lead the business as clients face a more interconnected and volatile risk environment.
Hoffman brings more than 25 years of experience in insurance and financial services as both a broker and underwriter. He currently serves as Aon’s global specialty and financial products leader and head of M&A for North America. Since joining Aon in 2003, he has held senior roles including global cyber leader and chief executive of cyber solutions for North America. Earlier in his career, he spent five years at Chubb as an underwriting manager and senior underwriter.
The Doctors Company, part of TDC Group, has appointed Akhil Saklecha, MD, and Owen Garrick, MD, to its board of governors, adding experience in clinical care, healthcare innovation and research leadership to the governance of the physician-owned medical malpractice insurer.
Richard E. Anderson, chairman and chief executive officer of The Doctors Company and TDC Group, said the appointments would strengthen the insurer’s ability to serve clinicians and healthcare institutions. He said the pair’s combined expertise in medicine, healthcare innovation, clinical research and executive leadership would help the company continue to “advance, protect, and reward the practice of good medicine.”
Saklecha is an emergency physician and managing director at WittKieffer’s Global Investor-backed markets team, with previous leadership roles at Danaher and Cleveland Clinic Ventures. Garrick most recently served as dean of clinical trials at Mayo Clinic and has also held senior positions at CVS Health, McKesson, Novartis and Merck. Together, the appointments signal continued investment in specialist leadership as medical liability and healthcare delivery continue to evolve.
