W. R. Berkley Corporation announced Thursday that it has named Scott R. Barraclough as president of operating unit Admiral Insurance.

Barraclough succeeds the previous president Steven Zeitman, who was named chairman.

Joining Admiral Insurance in 1996, Barraclough has since held various financial and operational positions throughout his two-decade career in the company. More recently, he held the title of executive vice president.

Barraclough has a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from Drexel University College of Business and Administration.

“With his extensive experience in the surplus lines insurance market and proven success at Admiral Insurance over the last two decades, we are confident that Scott is uniquely qualified to take on this leadership role and provide a seamless transition for all of Admiral’s stakeholders,” said W. R. Berkley president and chief executive officer W. Robert Berkley, Jr.

“Steve has made an enormous contribution to the organization, both in his recent leadership role at Admiral Insurance and having formed and led the business at Berkley Specialty Underwriting Managers with great success. We are fortunate to have the benefit of his continued involvement as chairman of Admiral Insurance.”

The operating unit, Admiral Insurance, is based in Mount Laurel, NJ. It offers specialized excess and surplus lines coverage for commercial risks.
