Nearly 15 insurance companies have partnered with the American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs to help create career opportunities for military veterans.

The program, called Veteran Placement Initiative, will launch on Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11 and aims to place veterans with some of the nation’s leading financial institutions.

Partnering with the college are Starr Companies, Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, Northwestern Mutual, First Command Financial Services, Prudential Financial, Lincoln Financial group, Fifth Third Bank, Pactera, Intellect SEEC, COUNTRY Financial, Saybrus Partners, Hartford Funds and Voyal Financial.

These groups advertise specifically to veterans, both through the college and on their own.

“These partnerships really exemplify a unique win for everyone involved,” said Ted Digges, Executive Director of The American College Penn Mutual Center for Veterans Affairs. “It’s great for the veteran who gets hired and it’s great for the organization that gets an outstanding employee. And finally, it’s great for the financial services sector as we infuse the industry with these talented individuals.”

Digges also praised the insurers involved with the program for making opportunities for veterans with marketable skills.

“That’s what this program is all about – connecting these talented veteran scholars to our broad network of partners, representing some of the best organizations in the financial services industry,” Digges said. “These organizations are very interested in hiring veterans because of the discipline, integrity and work ethic learned in their military service.

“There is a huge demand in the industry for the kind of talent that our veteran scholars bring to the table.”

The American College of Financial Services launched its center for veterans affairs in 2012 and is now awarding, on average, more than one scholarship per week.

The school is a non-profit education institution devoted to financial services. It has served as a business partner to insurance companies and other firms in the financial services unit.
