Periodically, IBAmag.com checks in with our jobs board to take a deeper look at opportunities in the insurance field. Today we highlight a regional account representative position at PT&C|LWG. The job is based in either Boston or Hartford, Conn.

PT&C|LWG might not be the first place an insurance professional would think of when searching for a position. The firm does forensic consulting services, which means it goes in after a major catastrophe, like a fire or explosion, and helps its clients determine the cause and responsibility of the damage. As a result, most of their employees are engineers.

While an engineering background is valuable for this opening, the role is really for somebody with a heart for sales who has relationships with – or knows how to work with – commercial adjusters. The reason: the job is all about generating clients from that community.

“We don’t need a person with a book of business,” said Adem Tahiri, who does talent acquisition and development for PT&C|LWG. “In this role, we are looking for a business development person for the entire Northeast. We’re looking for someone who can build on the relationships we currently have, create new ones and do some marketing.”

While this is a new position for PT&C|LWG, account reps perform similar roles elsewhere around the country. As a result, Tahiri is confident that whoever gets the job will be well positioned to succeed.

“Our reps have been wildly successful in every other market from Chicago to Texas, and there is no reason why somebody couldn’t be wildly successful in the Northeast,” he said.

Beyond the ability to grasp the technical side of this business, Tahiri explained that fitting in culturally at the company is an essential piece for the winning candidate.

“This is a service-oriented business,” he said. “We are looking for folks who are transparent and who are not just trustworthy but are looking to fill a role that clients can count on in times of need.”

PT&C|LWG has already received numerous applications, but Tahiri says they are not in a rush to fill the slot.

“We are willing to take as long as it takes to find the right fit,” he said. “You don’t want to introduce the wrong fit to your clients.”
