Anticipating a surge in claims, Farmers Insurance announced Monday that it would deploy additional “specially-trained” Catastrophe Claims Team members to offer aid to policyholders in southern Texas affected by the recent string of severe weather events.

Houston, San Antonio, and other areas in southern Texas were recently hit by storms that brought about hailstones, heavy rain, and strong winds.

Due to this, Farmers increased the number of its staff in the area to handle the expected additional claims the company received.

The insurer estimated that the total damages wrought by the storms would be over $200 million.

Farmers encouraged consumers to remain vigilant and prepare for further storm systems and to keep their cars and other valuables safe under cover. The insurer also advised its customers to use the online filing system when possible to prevent lengthy call times.
