Northwestern Mutual-Southwest has plans this year to employ about 20 financial advisers and a number of interns.

The insurer’s office gained 1,000 new clients in 2015, with more than $20 million in assets under management.

Northwestern Mutual-Southwest provides mutual funds, individual securities, personal trust and brokerage services, retirement plans, variable annuities, fixed income management, cash management, variable life insurance and discretionary investment management.

According to managing director Steven Trujillo, the firm is looking to expand into adjacent offices to accommodate even more personnel. Currently, the Albuquerque operation employs 50 advisers.

“Customers are looking to us for financial expertise and guidance,” remarked Trujllo. “There’s never been a greater need for more resources, advice and solutions to help people plan and achieve financial security.”

Trujllo noted that Northwestern Mutual-Southwest hires recruits from all walks of life, such as military veterans and housewives. He explained that the insurer wants to take its leadership and organizational skills into a new direction.

Trujllo himself previously worked in law enforcement before becoming a financial adviser.
