Insurance firm Lockton yesterday named three new executives to leadership roles as it moves to boost its position in the market.

Rene Van Winden will oversee the firm’s operations from Houston as senior vice president and national energy property leader. Van Winden previously worked with broker Aon for more than a decade, most recently as a senior vice president for its energy concerns.

He has also worked for various other firms in other European locales. He holds a master’s degree from Rotterdam’s Erasmus University and a degree from Ecole De Management in France.

“(His) commitment, professionalism, and technical acumen make him an ideal leader to serve our energy property clients. He will be in good company, joining an accomplished and highly experienced group of specialists,” said Brad Villers, executive vice president and specialty group practice leader for Lockton in Houston.

Meanwhile, the company has bumped up two Lockton veterans to strategic broker leader roles, also in Houston.

Mike Sorge was named to the position, specifically for the company’s risk management practice after 14 years serving in various positions in Lockton. He also worked with CNA Risk Management as regional underwriting manager and pursued undergraduate studies and MBA at the Appalachian State University.

His range of expertise covers complex casualty placements for both energy and non-energy accounts, and both complex collateral strategies and complicated umbrella and excess liability insurance programs. In his capacity as leader, he will continue to serve clients to structure and manage these highly specialized placements.

Bobby Bierley will occupy the same role, but specific to Lockton’s Energy and Marine Practice. He spent more than half of his 16 year career at Lockton. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Samford University, and an MBA in risk management and finance from the University of Georgia.

His most recent posting was as team leader of Lockton’s Multinational Energy and Marine Practice.  In addition, he worked as an account executive for the company’s major energy and marine clients. Bierley will continue in these lines by providing ongoing support for complex insurance programs.

“We are pleased to have Mike and Bobby take on these new roles where they can have an even greater influence on technical risk management solutions for our most complex clients,” stated Tim Kelly, leader of Lockton’s property-casualty operations in Texas.
