The Life Insurers Council (LIC) of the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) has named Susan A. Thomas (pictured) as chair of the council’s board of directors for 2020.

Thomas is the current president and CEO of Texas Service Life Insurance Company. She originally joined the LIC’s board of directors in 2017.

As the new chair of the board, Thomas succeeds Mark Singleton, president and CEO of Armed Forces Benefit Association/5Star Life Insurance Company. A release said that Singleton will continue on the LIC board as immediate past chair.

“Susan has been an active and important contributor to the LIC since her company first joined in 2012,” commented LIC executive director Jeff Shaw. “She has distinguished herself as a truly innovative CEO by committing fully to embracing all of the innovations and efficiencies that emerging technologies have to offer our industry.”

Shaw added that the LIC is looking forward to benefitting from the same leadership and insights Thomas has been applying to her own company.

Apart from Thomas’s appointment, the LIC has also named other new officers on its board.

Byron Allen, president and CEO of American Savings Life Insurance Company was elected as LIC vice-chair of the board, while Francois Duguay, FCIA, FSA, senior vice president of risk management and chief actuary of Optimum Re was appointed LIC secretary of the board.

Two new members were also welcomed into the board: Alan Jahde, JD, LL.M, CEO of Investors Preferred Life Insurance; and Greg Temple, president and CEO of Catholic Order of Foresters.
