Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) has announced two executive appointments.

Alexander Montoya (pictured) has been appointed president of LSM – US, Bermuda and Latin America, while Wilhelm Schaugg has joined Montoya’s team as head of strategy for US, Bermuda and Latin America.

For the past four years, Montoya has served as president of Liberty International Underwriters (LIU) Latin America. In that role, he was responsible for building the presence of LSM in the region. He has more than 20 years of experience in specialty lines reinsurance and joined Liberty Mutual Insurance Group in 2014 as managing director of LIU.

“Alex Montoya’s strategic vision, innovative ideas and leadership skills have enabled our operations in Latin America to strengthen and grow,” said Matthew Moore, president and managing director of LSM. “In his expanded role, he can use his talent for innovation to help us grow our business across the region. He will lead his team to develop specialized solutions that meet the needs of our customers.”

Schaugg previously served as head of commercial lines and reinsurance at Liberty Mutual’s Global Retail Markets East. His new role was created to support the region with strategic planning, marketing, new business analysis and reporting, LSM said.

“I’m pleased to welcome Wilhelm to LSM,” Moore said. “His appointment will help drive the future success of the business by evaluating strategic actions to generate profitable growth and enhance customer experience across multiple distribution and service-delivery channels.”
