Colorado health insurance marketplace gets new comparison tool
A new tool has been added to the Colorado health insurance marketplace in time for the 2017 enrolment period.
The Quick Cost and Plan finder tool has been developed by Connect for Health Colorado and the Center for Improving Value in Health Care and will enable those shopping for plans to compare plans based on estimates of out of pocket expenses and their preferred choice of physicians and facilities.

It will also inform users whether they qualify for financial assistance to lower premiums or deductibles. However, it does not suggest which plans a customer should choose.

Those who need expert help with selecting a plan will be able to connect with a certified insurance broker for help.

"Shopping for health plans can be confusing, and this tool helps Coloradans understand how different plans may impact their out-of-pocket costs throughout the year," states Ana English, President and CEO for CIVHC. "By combining CO APCD data with health plan data, we are providing a missing piece of the puzzle for customers making important health care decisions."

Insurer highlights risk from bulky winter clothing
It probably wouldn’t rank highly in your list of risks but as the weather turns colder one insurer is highlighting a danger from winter clothing.

Allstate Canada has found that while 95 per cent of parents say they are confident in how to safely buckle their kids in child safety seats, many are limiting their effectiveness by overdressing.

The insurer says that 41 per cent of those polled said dressing children in snowsuits or winter coats while in safety seats was the best way to keep them warm. However, it warns that bulky items create slack in the harness and could allow a child to be ejected in the event of an accident.

“These poll findings suggest a large knowledge gap, and we want parents to understand that the key to protecting your child is to dress them appropriately for their car seat, not the weather outside,” says Jason Foroglou, Certified Car Seat Safety Technician and Agency Manager, Allstate Insurance Company of Canada.
