Fewer Canadian firms offering post-retirement benefits to employees
The proportion of Canadian companies offering post-retirement benefits to future retirees has fallen from more than 40 per cent 15 years ago to less than 30 per cent in 2016.

Mercer says that there has been a sharp reduction in retiree plans in the past four years with 22 per cent of its survey respondents having reduced benefits from the plans and in some cases blocking new hires from the plans altogether.

Mercer’s data shows that 82 per cent of Canadian employees say that receiving health benefits through their workplace are as important to them as receiving a salary.
