Risko Strategies, a risk advisory and insurance agency, has launched Sportify, a contingency insurance policy for elite high school and college student-athletes.
The product protects athletic scholarship offers should a sports-related accident result in permanent disability or an illness prevent student athletes from participating in sports. Sportfy allows the athlete, his or her parents, or a higher-education institution to insure the scholarship offer or award with a high-limit lump-sum payout.
“Today’s amateur sports industry has a robust value chain targeting parents and athletes,” said Steven Mace, Risko Strategies advisory board member. “Decades ago, I witnessed my own son’s experience as a highly recruited student athlete. The competition then was fierce, but it is quite different to what we see today. Sportify is therefore a risk management-driven response to the sophistication and professionalism of the high school and college athlete sectors of the USA.”
