The second largest personal lines insurer, Allstate Insurance, filed a lawsuit against two doctors for defrauding insurance companies for nine years.

The husband and wife duo from Las Vegas, Dr Mario Tarquino and Dr Marjorie Belsky, are accused of defrauding insurance companies in cases involving automobile crashes dating back to 2006.

Allstate Insurance handles the doctors’ billings and treatment in cases involving back pain caused by automobile crashes. It claims that the couple withheld important information like medical records, drug tests, and other important information they felt would reduce claims.

The lawsuit was filed by Eron Cannon, a Las Vegas lawsuit attorney, against both the doctors, and their respective companies, Integrated Pain Specialists and Mario Tarquino MD.

The lawsuit alleges that Belsky and Tarquino created “inflated medical bills that would be used to leverage artificially enhanced settlement values to be paid by insurance companies rather than providing patient-centered treatment with the goal of actually treating or healing injuries,” reported the Las Vegas Review Journal.

It also claimed that Belsky routinely recommended injections to patients, who suffered from back pains following a crash, even when they weren’t necessary.

Cannon, on behalf of Allstate Insurance, also said Belsky would also refer patients to her husband, without the “option” to see someone else, reported the Las Vegas Review Journal.

The lawsuit also claimed that the couple presented medical reports with false symptoms and injuries.
