North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin announced Feb. 22 that Jacob Christopher Mullins, 28, has been arrested. Mullins is charged with one count each of embezzlement by an insurance agent, financial card fraud and obtaining property by false pretense.

Mullins, a Fremont native, was arrested in Wilson County on Feb. 15 and placed under a $3,000 bond.

Criminal investigators of the Department of Insurance allege that between Jan. 2014 and Jan. 2016 Mullins had been taking money from insurance customers at a Wilson insurance agency without actually securing the customers’ coverage. Investigators also accused Mullins of using customers’ cards to make insurance purchases without their consent.
