Residents of Ohio pay among the lowest rates for auto and homeowners insurance in the country, according to a national study released on March 1.

Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor cited the findings of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners annual study which showed that Ohio residents paid the country’s ninth lowest homeowners insurance rate and the 12th lowest auto insurance premium.

Ohioans paid an average of $763 for homeowners insurance and $659 for auto insurance compared to the national average of $1,096 and $841, respectively. Ohio’s combined average premiums are $515 below the national averages.

“We are focused on cultivating a competitive insurance market that benefits the consumer. That focus is generating some of the lowest premiums in the country, said Taylor, who also serves as Ohio Department of Insurance director.
