Professional Casualty Association (PCA), of Pennsylvania, has been approved for operations by the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services as a licensed and admitted carrier in Michigan, effective immediately.

The company's products will be offered through an exclusive set of retail and wholesale producer relationships.

"We at PCA are pleased to serve as a strong financial partner, providing excellent personalized service, that health care providers can depend on to defend their interests against allegations of negligence," said Jonathan C. Lanesky., PCA vice president of Marketing/Claims. "Our success has been built on professionalism, honesty and reliability."
Lanesky, an attorney, only recently joined PCA and said his coming on board is part of what led to the expansion into Michigan, where he had been based. “I had 15 years background in Michigan and thought PCA’s philosophy was a good fit for Michigan and would really help us differentiate ourselves in this market.”

He said medical mal insurance is dominated by big corporate players and leaves a lot of ground for a smaller company that is very doctor-focused. “We really fight for doctors. With so many of the bigger companies, the doctors really just get lost. With PCA, doctors have someone they can call and talk to anytime. Doctors are very busy and they need someone who believes in them and will defend them every step of the way. I’m the son of a doctor and at PCA, we take care of doctors,” he said.

For the past 13 years, PCA has been authorized to write medical malpractice in Pennsylvania only. The company said it will introduce a competitively priced, defense-oriented insurance product to the Michigan health care community, while simultaneously addressing the insurance needs of the allied health professionals related to its insured physicians and surgeons.

PCA liability insurance highlights include:
  • Coverage options: $100,000/$300,000 – $200,000/$600,000 – $500,000/$1,000,000 claims-made insurance policies
  • Allied coverage: midwives, physician assistants and nurse practitioners
  • Defense outside the limits
  • Tail coverage options available
  • Physicians' full consent to settle
At the grassroots level, PCA's efforts will be led by Lanesky, and Sadhna Chopra as vice president of Underwriting. Combined, they have more than 40 years of medical professional liability industry experience in the Michigan market.
