The Professional Insurance Agents of Wisconsin (PIA), a trade association representing thousands of independent agents across the state, has announced Sen. Rob Stafsholt (R–New Richmond) and Rep. Alex Dallman (R–Green Lake) as recipients of the 2024 Legislative Excellence Award.

The Legislative Excellence Award is presented annually to one member from each legislative chamber who supports PIA's priority issues and leads efforts to maintain Wisconsin as a strong environment for independent insurance agents.

Dallman was recognized for his role as author of 2023 Wisconsin Act 60, ensuring its passage during the 2023-2024 legislative session. The legislation requires high school students to complete a half credit of education on financial literacy, covering topics such as money management, credit and debt, risk management, and insurance.

PIA said that it has supported the measure, emphasizing the importance of young adults understanding credit and insurance to protect themselves and others. PIA also acknowledged Dallman’s sustained efforts across sessions to advance this legislation.

Stafsholt was also honored for his work during the 2023-2024 session. Stafsholt co-authored 2023 Wisconsin Act 60 and introduced 2023 Senate Bill 386, which aimed to clarify insurance procedures related to peer-to-peer car sharing transactions.

Although the bill was ultimately vetoed, PIA said that it continues to advocate for its passage and recognized Stafsholt’s efforts to create greater certainty for all parties involved in car sharing arrangements.

Jon Strom, president of PIA Wisconsin, said Stafsholt’s and Dallman’s leadership on issues such as financial literacy education and insurance policy clarity benefits the industry and the communities served by agents.

Previously, the association honored Sen. Dan Knodl and Rep. Bob Donovan with the Legislative Excellence Award for 2023. Knodl was acknowledged for his pivotal role in authoring legislation that led to the repeal of the personal property tax, while Donovan received the award for authoring key legislation addressing public safety and driver education.
