The city of Solon, OH has come up with a preliminary damage estimate for a local fire event that recently occurred inside the Nestle Global Research & Development Center, gauging the cost to be around $300,000.

On September 13, firefighters responded to a fire that broke out around 11am at the facility, located along Cannon Road. More than a hundred Nestle employees followed evacuation procedures during the blaze, and no injuries were reported.

Fire damage to the R&D facility was limited to a single piece of equipment located on the third floor, Cleveland.com reported. That piece of equipment heats mineral oil, then pumps it down into the test labs below.

Solon’s fire crew was aided by firefighters from nearby Orange Village.

“There was some difficulty moving the smoke out because the building is so compartmentalized,” said Solon Fire Chief Bill Shaw.

Shaw explained that crews were still cleaning up a significant amount of smoke and water damage last week following the fire. Shaw also added that officials are still waiting on a final damage tally from insurance adjusters.

In a statement last week, the fire chief said that the Nestle blaze was ruled accidental and equipment-related.

The $50 million, 144,000-square-foot Nestle Global Research & Development Center opened in mid-2015 following two years of construction.
