To showcase its scholarship recipients and the insurance companies that hire them, the Spencer Educational Foundation has designated today – February 24 – as Spencer Day.

As part of the inaugural Spencer Day celebrations, the organization is calling for industry professionals to promote the Spencer Scholars they have mentored on social media, with the tag #SpencerScholars. Employers of scholars are also invited to join in the celebration, by giving a shout out to the scholars they have hired and supported. Current and previous scholars are also being encouraged to step forward on social media or on Spencer’s website.

Spencer’s announcement comes after it received a $650,000 donation from FM Global – one of the largest single pledges the organization has picked up in its 41-year history, a release said.

“The mission of Spencer is simple; we are helping to manufacture talent for the entire industry, and as our support grows, our capacity to generate more results increases, too,” said Spencer board chair and All Risks director of distribution & broker partnerships Marya Propis. “We are excited to call upon all Spencer Scholars – and the companies who employ them – to stand up today and be acknowledged. We also want to shine a bright spotlight on standout industry partners like FM Global on our Spencer Day.”

Since originally granting three scholarships to students in the insurance and risk management field in 1980, Spencer has helped more than 1,000 P&C insurance professionals. At present, Spencer relies on annual support from hundreds of donor companies and industry professionals.
