Swiss Re announced on Wednesday plans to relocate its Overland Park, Kansas, office – and 400 jobs – to downtown Kansas City, Mo. The state of Missouri lured the company across the border, in part, with the promise of access to up to $19.8 million in public incentives – nearly $50,000 per Swiss Re job.

“We’re excited about our move to downtown Kansas City, Missouri,” Swiss Re Americas President and CE Eric Smith said in a statement. “Kansas City is a great location for our company, and we look forward to partnering with Missouri.”

The move is expected to take place in late 2018, according to a report by the Kansas City Star. Wednesday’s announcement comes shortly after Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens visited Swiis Re’s Zurich headquarters to promote Missouri’s business climate.

“My job is to fight for jobs,” Greitens said. “I’m proud to say our work is getting results. We’re taking the state in a new direction, with more jobs and higher pay.”
