An elderly Texas man is now behind bars, accused in the decades-old murder of his wife for insurance money.

Former Illinois lawyer Donnie Rudd, now 73, was arrested in Sugar Land, Texas, late last week and charged with the 1973 murder of his wife, Noreen, in suburban Barrington Township. Noreen.

Rudd remains behind bars following his arrest, with an Illinois judge on Monday denying him bail.

Now working as a scientist in texas, Rudd had taken out a 100,000 dollar life insurance policy shortly before his bride’s death, 28 days after their nuptials.

That policy raised questions about Rudd’s possible involvement in the death, then considered the result of a single-car accident.

Rudd, also in the vehicle, came away unharmed. Noreen Rudd was thrown from car, with trauma and spine fractures leading to her death.

The case is already raising questions about the ultimate dispensation of any insurance payout and what if anything the life carrier could win back in a liquidation of Rudd’s assets.
