A recent study on homeowner’s insurance in Wisconsin ranked the city of Sheboygan as the state’s least expensive place to purchase this type of coverage.

The report, put out by Valuepenguin.com, covered 71 cities. It looked at four major insurers and based their numbers on a “model” home that was 2,000-square-feet with an estimated reconstruction cost of $200,000, a fully finished basement, brick/veneer construction and an asphalt/fiberglass roof. In addition, the sample homeowner was a single 41-year-old male who had owned the property since 2000.

According to Valuepenguin’s Brian Quinn, the biggest takeaway from the study was that there were certain regional trends in homeowner’s insurance throughout the state.

“The least expensive places for home insurance tended to be clustered in the eastern half of the state – with a majority of the top five right along Lake Michigan,” he said. “Contrarily, the most expensive cities in Wisconsin for home insurance were all in and around larger cities.”

While the state average for their model home was a $1,564 premium, Sheboygan came in at $1,229. Rounding out the top five were Port Washington ($1,301), Plymouth ($1,319), Green Bay ($1,334) and Muskego (1,334).

The most expensive locales in the study were Hudson ($1,926), New Richmond ($1,911), Verona ($1,879), and Madison ($1,867).
