While the price tag on a BMW convertible or Porsche 911 Carrera would cause sticker shock for most American consumers, the buck doesn’t stop there: according to new data released by Insure.com, those are among the two most expensive cars to insure in 2015.

The insurance information provider calculated the nationwide averages from six major carriers to determine the typical coverage for a 40-year old male with a good financial record who drives around 12 miles per day.

At the two extremes, the site found that the multistage front airbag wielding Jeep Wrangler Sport 4WD is the cheapest car in America to cover, averaging $1,134 per year, whereas the flashy Nissan GT-R Nismo was the most expensive at $3,574 annually.

The complete top 10 list of the least expensive 2015 cars to insure are:

1.Jeep Wrangler Sport 4WD- $1,134
2.Jeep Patriot Sport 2WD - $1,136
3.Honda CR-V LX 4WD - $1,160
4.Dodge Grand Caravan SE Plus- $1,162

While it may not be an intuitive choice, “smart” automobiles are actually inexpensive to repair and have few claims.  In fact, many fuel-efficient cars frequently rank highly among J.D. Power and Associates’ “Top Safety Picks.”

“The Smart’s showing may seem like a surprise,” Penny Gusner, consumer analyst at Insure.com, said in a statement. “But it has racked up years of consistent below-average losses from claims, and that’s what your insurance bill reflects.”
