A man who was previously among the most wanted in Washington for insurance fraud has been sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to his charges.

Leandre Garner, 30, formerly of University Place, pleaded guilty in Pierce County Superior Court to attempting to file a false insurance claim.

Garner received two years of probation and credit for 51 days served in jail, and was directed to pay $700 in court costs.

In September 2013, Garner was charged with second-degree attempted theft and filing a false insurance claim after a probe by the Special Investigations Unit of Washington Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler.

According to the investigation, Garner obtained insurance for his 2007 Chrysler 300 in November 2012. The next day, he filed a claim with State Farm that his car was damaged in an apartment complex parking lot.

Garner included a damage repair estimate of more than $4,300, but records showed that the car was damaged before he purchased the insurance.

After failing to appear in court, an arrest warrant was issued for Garner, who was placed on Kriedler’s insurance fraud most wanted list until his arrest last February in California.
