Drones, changes in technology, attracting millennials to the insurance industry and the recent string of weather incidents in the South are just some of the topics that will be covered during July’s Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Mid-Year Property and Casualty Insurance Symposium.

There is still time to sign up for the meeting, which will be held July 13 and 14 in Austin, under the theme “Evolve and Adapt: Insurance for the Next Generation.”

There is no other symposium or conference quite like this event because of its primary focus on what is happening in the Texas insurance marketplace and the networking opportunities are unbelievable,” Mark Hanna, a spokesman for the Insurance Council of Texas, told the SE Texas Record. “Every ajor insurer and others will be represented.”

Speakers, including Insurance Information Institute President Bob Hartwig, will address the greatest technological developments expected to have an impact on the industry.

“Dr. Hartwig will offer his economic assessment of both Texas and the US property and casualty markets along with projections,” Hanna said. “We have an expert on drones and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the use of drones.”

A panel of industry experts will also discuss Texas’ recent catastrophic storm season and its impact on the state’s insurance industry. The panelists will also address voluntary coastal writing and attracting millennials into the business, Hanna said.

“And we hope to get a fix on the mindset of Commissioner David Mattax and what his regulatory priorities are,” he added.

Mattax himself is expected to discuss how insurance regulation has been impacted by changes in technology, along with ICT Executive Director Albert Betts.

Awards and scholarship recipients will also be announced, and winners will have the opportunity to tour the Texas Department of Insurance Wednesday morning.

Online registration for the symposium and additional information can be found at insurancecouncil.org/symposium.
