Weird and wacky claims as listed by Farmers Insurance

Burglar raccoons, mermaid dogs and dancing deer—make sure your insurance covers them, just in case

They say the insurance industry is a bore, all numbers and statistics. But Farmers Insurance recently gave us a glimpse into the faces behind the paperwork and came up with a “Hall of Claims,” which lists some of the weirdest and wackiest claims they ever had to process. Here are the five that made our list:

1.    A moose and a swing set? Why not? Just don’t let them get near an RV, which is what happened to one client in moose country. After realizing the swing set is not as fun as it first looked, the moose thrashed about, trying to untangle his antlers from the play equipment. The result? A damaged motor home.
2.    They were indeed masked intruders. Not just of the human kind. Farmers had to settle a claim of home intrusion by raccoons with a couple after the critters ran amok in their home and chewed everything they could get their little paws on.
3.    Dogs are supposed to be afraid of water. But not the couple of mutts who turned on the kitchen faucet and turned these homeowners’ living room into a play pool. The claimants came home to find their furry friends frolicking in the water. Apparently, this is not the first claim of its kind.
4.    The sight of a horse and buggy are supposed to inspire nostalgia, but this runaway equus, with his buggy still on his back was so spooked by Independence Day festivities he inspired panic as he bore down on the claimant and damaged two nearby vehicles.
5.    Dancing deer are endearing, not just when they do it on your brand new ride. A customer was bringing home his new set of wheels, which has all the bells and whistles, when a deer appeared not five miles away from the car dealer’s and shared in the driver’s joy over his new toy by dancing on the car. Enough said.

These claims show that a day at the insurer’s office is not always as straightforward and ordinary as the onlooker would think. There are days too, when you’d be welcome to believe, nothing is actually impossible!
