White Mountains Insurance Group’s board of directors has announced the election of Peter Carlson as its director.

Carlson is an insurance veteran who has held a number of leadership positions in the industry. Before joining White Mountain Insurance Group, Carlson was formerly chief operating officer at annuities and life insurer Brighthouse Financial, Inc.  Previously, he was executive vice president and chief accounting officer of MetLife, Inc., and has also served on the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council.

“We are pleased to welcome Pete to our board of directors,” said Manning Rountree, chief executive officer of White Mountain Insurance Group. “His extensive experience with accounting, insurance, banking and corporate governance will benefit our owners.”

The announcement follows news that White Mountain’s board of directors declared a $1 per share annual dividend to holders of record of common shares at its regular meeting.
