Willis Re, the reinsurance business of Willis Towers Watson, has announced the appointment of David Schoenrock as executive vice president and head of global accounts for Willis Re North America, effective Dec. 23, and the concurrent promotion of Doug May (pictured) to president of Willis Re North America. Schoenrock will report to May.

In his new role, Schoenrock will liaise with the senior executive teams of major US clients and prospects. He will work with Willis Re’s broking, actuarial and modeling teams to execute strategy for North America. He will also mentor colleagues and assist with product design and development for Willis Re’s global clients. Prior to joining Willis Re, Schoenrock held positions at Guy Carpenter and General Re.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Dave’s expertise and work ethic join the team,” said Jim Bradshaw, CEO of Willis Re North America. “His considerable experience and stellar reputation in the market will allow him to immediately plug into our major account portfolio and across the broader Willis Re. He will provide critical assistance to our efforts to grow our footprint and attract new clients in this space. Most importantly, Dave fits perfectly into our culture of collaboration and mentorship and will be an invaluable asset in our efforts to pair seasoned executives with up-and-coming talent, ensuring our clients continue to get the benefit of market experience and new perspectives.”

May will continue in his roles as manager of Willis Re’s North America business segments and a member of the North America executive committee in addition to his new role as president. May joined Willis Re in 2007 after spending 12 years at Guy Carpenter.

“Promoting Doug makes perfect sense as well,” Bradshaw said. “He has been an outstanding performer and has played a huge role in the development of our North American business. He was a driving force in the successful launch of our recent wildfire model and has been a key driver in client- and prospect-focused risk management and mitigation projects. He is admired and respected by colleagues and clients alike, and he is well-suited to assume this role.”

“I am continually amazed by the abilities of Willis Re colleagues and the incredible platform we have to serve clients,” May said. “I am excited about this new role and look forward to working with our branches and segment leaders to better serve clients.”
