A customer whose arm got accidentally cut by a restaurant server in Addison has yet to receive the insurance payout due to her; her claim outlined a recompense of $23,700 in total.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Karla Whitley was having an ordinary meal at Texas de Brazil with a friend when she suddenly felt a “searing pain.”  Looking at the spot where the pain emanated, Whitley found a 2-inch gash.

“I don’t expect to go out to eat and have a scar for life,” she remarked.

The restaurant is known for its servers carving meat at diners’ tables.

Whitley said that the restaurant manager was apologetic for the accident. When she called the restaurant a few days later, she was helpfully referred to the chain’s corporate office, which then referred her to Liberty Mutual insurance.

She sent Liberty a proposal, asking the insurer to pay $5,000 for treatments to fix the scar, $6,700 in lost wages, and $12,000 for the suffering and emotional distress she sustained. Liberty, however, told her that it does not want to settle for now and instead wants to wait for six months to see if the scar improves; only then would the insurer consider giving recompense.

“I feel dismissed by them, and I have felt that way since the beginning,” commented Whitley.

Texas de Brazil issued several statements regarding the matter, and believed that their insurance company can address Whitley’s issues.
