WTW is entering sports sponsorship at the corporate level for the first time through a three-year global agreement with INEOS Grenadiers, becoming the cycling team’s exclusive insurance partner in a move that places the broker alongside a growing number of insurers using sports partnerships for brand visibility and client engagement.

The agreement gives WTW branding rights across the team’s global platform, including placement on jerseys and team vehicles. The companies said they will also work on marketing and client engagement initiatives in multiple international markets.

Carl Hess described the deal as the company’s first corporate-level sports sponsorship and said cycling was selected because of its connection to risk and long-term planning.

“We are excited to announce this global partnership between WTW and INEOS Grenadiers, marking our strategic entry into sports sponsorship at the company level,” said Hess. “Professional cycling was a deliberate choice. It’s defined by risk, preparation and long-term outcomes, closely aligned with the challenges our clients face and the expertise WTW brings to managing complexity and sustaining performance.”

Why insurance firms are turning to sports sponsorships

The deal comes at a time when insurers and brokers are committing more capital to sports partnerships across multiple markets.

Allianz remains one of the sector’s most visible sponsors through its global Olympic and Paralympic partnership, which runs through 2032 and includes marketing campaigns in more than 70 markets.

In North America, insurers including State Farm, Allstate and Progressive maintain sponsorship arrangements across major US sports leagues.

More recently, ERGO NEXT Insurance signed a multi-year agreement with Inter Miami CF that includes training apparel branding and stadium visibility. ALKEME also reached a 15-year naming rights agreement with Arizona Athletics tied to its basketball arena.

Palomar Holdings recently became the official specialty insurance partner of San Diego State Athletics through a broader collegiate partnership in California.

In the UK, Chaucer Group entered sports sponsorship for the first time through a three-year partnership with Surrey County Cricket Club.

From Tour wins to new sponsors

Sir Dave Brailsford said cycling’s competitive environment aligned with WTW’s business focus.

“Success at the highest level of cycling depends on managing risk effectively and making smart decisions in fast-moving, often demanding situations. WTW’s global expertise in these areas makes them an excellent partner as we continue to develop and strengthen the team. This partnership is built on a shared ambition to compete at the very top, alongside a mutual commitment to long-term performance,” said Brailsford.

“Our partnership with WTW brings together two organisations with a shared approach to performance - focused on preparation, resilience and the ability to navigate complexity,” Brailsford added.

Founded in 2010, INEOS Grenadiers was created to become the first team to win the Tour de France with a British rider. That goal was achieved in 2012 when Bradley Wiggins won the race. The team has since won six additional Tour de France titles. The team is owned by INEOS, which launched INEOS Automotive in 2020 to build the INEOS Grenadier.
