XL Catlin's insurance arm announced Monday that it had launched its new team that is focused on alternative risk transfer and non-traditional insurance.

Called the Structured Risk Solutions (SRS) team, the group is a dedicated global underwriting unit tasked with offering customized solutions for large and complex risks where there is no traditional insurance product that can cover such risks.

The team will offer “Bespoke risk transfer solutions for new and emerging risks for corporate Clients and Financial Institutions,” and “Multi-year, multi-line structured (re)insurance solutions for Captive insurance companies.”

Rob Turner was tapped to head the new team; he joined XL Catlin in 2015.

"We believe the market opportunity for this type of business is significant; risks are evolving and increasingly clients look to us to find non-traditional and innovative approaches to manage their exposures,” said XL Catlin Insurance Leadership Team chief underwriting officer and chairman Paul Brand. “We believe we have the expertise and appetite to make a real difference in this space."

The team will be based in London, serving Europe; it will expand its operations to New York shortly.
