Chubb has added cyber bullying coverage to its US home insurance policy to help victims of online threats and harassment pay for psychiatric services, recuperation costs and other expenses.

The cyber bullying coverage will provide $60,000 compensation to clients and family members to help them recover costs incurred from harassment and intimidation committed through personal computers, telephones or mobile devices.

The coverage will pay for psychiatric services, rest and recuperation costs, lost wages, temporary relocation services, education expenses, professional public relations services, and cyber security consultants.

The policy starts when cyber bullying results in wrongful termination, false arrest, or unfair discipline at school. Expenses can also be recovered when cyber bullying causes diagnosed debilitating shock, mental injury or anguish that disallows a victim to attend school or work for more than a week.

“Technology's biggest benefit—an interconnected world—can also be its biggest challenge,” said Christie Alderman, Chubb North America Client Product and Services vice president.

“Cyber bullying, including online threats and harassment, can damage you or your child's reputation, and cause financial loss and emotional harm. Chubb's new policy helps victims reclaim their lives."

The coverage, which has been added to Chubb’s US Masterpiece Family protection policy, is now available in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin and will soon be rolled out to more states.

Chubb first released cyber bullying coverage as part of its personal lines insurance package in the UK in December 2015.
