The push for increased mobile technology has prodded the normally sleepy insurance industry into a series of milestones. Thousands of agents now have access to e-signature technology, mobile quoting platforms and real time capabilities allowing them to interface with carrier systems.

This week, the software tech provider Xchanging announced another first—an iPad app that provides claims agreement facilities directly from the user’s tablet. According to Alexandra Considine, mobile services product manager at Xchanging, users will be able to adjust, agree, query and decline claims—all on the move.

“It’s all about enabling behavior, flexibility and choice,” Considine told Insurance Business. “The insurance market still wants to do business by shaking hands and signing on the dotted line, so this enables claims adjusters to do that, but also to log onto the insurance market repository when they’re out and about.”

And the technology doesn’t just benefit claims adjusters. Considine says producers indirectly profit from the app, as they too can log on and view their clients’ claims statuses, come to an agreement and “action it there and then.”

The app—called Mobile Claims Agreement Service—is available for download in the Apple iTunes store. Though it is primarily applicable to adjusters and brokers in the London market, Considine mentioned that Xchanging is “definitely moving internationally” and plans to expand its offers in the US soon.

Mobile Claims Agreement Service is part of a larger set of Xchanging apps called X-presso, which includes apps that allow insurance professionals to work remotely and still enjoy face-to-face discussion. A recently developed app, called Aromo, even allows brokers to book appointments with underwriters and carriers based on their availability and location.

Considine mentioned that Xchanging is on the verge of launching another app that would allow insureds to report incidents on the go, traveling to their broker and carrier. That will “certainly” be available in the US, she said.

Currently, the claims agreement software is available only on the iPad, though Considine confirmed that Xchanging is planning on bringing the X-presso hub to Android phones and tablets as well.
