Two players in the environmental insurance market, Mosaic Insurance and Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited, have announced key leadership changes aimed at expanding their operations and adapting to the growing demand for tailored coverage in the sector.

Mosaic Insurance strengthens leadership in environmental liability

Mosaic Insurance has appointed Karen Reilly and David Barr to spearhead business growth in environmental liability across the US and international markets.

Reilly, based in Atlanta, brings more than 18 years of experience in environmental insurance, including roles in underwriting, product development, and management. Since joining Mosaic last year, she has focused on expanding the company’s presence across the Americas.

“I’m committed to leading our team into a new era of innovation and growth,” said Reilly.

Based in London, David Barr has over 30 years of expertise in environmental insurance underwriting, broking, and consultancy. A qualified geologist, Barr has led Mosaic’s global environmental liability division since its launch in 2022 as the company’s seventh specialty underwriting unit. His geological background enhances Mosaic’s ability to address complex environmental risks.

“These are truly exciting times at Mosaic, and I am thrilled to lead our continued international expansion, enabling Mosaic to offer insurance solutions globally to our retail and wholesale broking partners and customers,” said Barr.

Mosaic’s global head of environmental liability, Jim Finnamore, described the appointment as a critical step toward advancing the company’s growth strategy.

“Both are highly respected, accomplished talents in our industry and their deep expertise will help drive our corporate growth in the sector,” said Finnamore.

Aspen Insurance names head of US environmental operations

Meanwhile, Aspen Insurance announced that Michelle Dudek has been appointed head of US Environmental, effective Jan. 6.

Based in Jersey City, Dudek will oversee Aspen’s US environmental products and underwriting strategies.

She brings two decades of experience from AIG, where she held senior roles, including chief underwriting officer for environmental and other divisions.

“I am excited to join Aspen at a time when the business is proving to be the market of choice among our partners," said Dudek.

According to Aspen Insurance portfolio director William McElroy, Dudek's expertise is a valuable addition to the company's leadership team.

"She is highly experienced in all aspects of underwriting and underwriting governance and joins our growing bench strength of diverse," said McElroy.

Both companies aim to address evolving environmental risks and regulatory challenges, with strategies focused on innovation and sustainability.
