The South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has honored Odalys Arevalo and Mercedes Cabrera with the Lifetime Achievement Award at its 21st Annual Women Empowering & Embracing Women Awards.
Known as Las Madrinas de Los Seguros, or "The Godmothers of Insurance," the co-founders of Sunshine Life & Health Advisors were recognized for their contributions to the Hispanic community and their impact on the insurance industry.
Arevalo and Cabrera founded Sunshine Life & Health Advisors in 2013, with a focus on helping the Hispanic community navigate and enroll in Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plans.
Under their leadership, the company grew to become one of the largest Field Marketing Organizations in the US, serving more than 250,000 members in Florida, Texas, and other states. Sunshine Life & Health Advisors was acquired by Alliant Insurance Services in 2023, becoming part of the Alliant Consumer Group, which includes a growing portfolio of consumer-facing operations.
“This honor exemplifies our dedication to serving as a vital resource to communities in South Florida and across the US,” said Arevalo.
“We are truly honored to serve as a voice for our communities and look forward to continuing our mission of service as we look to the future,” Cabrera added.
Rick Ulmer, senior managing director of Alliant Consumer Group, praised Arevalo and Cabrera for their work, and how they turned their passion and business success into a mission to uplift the community.
“Through their work, they have empowered thousands to build rewarding careers in the insurance industry, all while delivering essential resources and services to those who need them most. They are truly a transformative and inspiring duo,” said Ulmer.
A key aspect of Sunshine's work is Las Madrinas de Los Seguros, an initiative that provides resources and training to Hispanic professionals in the insurance industry.

The initiative, which operates under the motto "We Care & You Count," functions as an "insurance university", offering training for thousands of individuals. Las Madrinas also supports communities with services such as health caravans, food distribution, toy giveaways, and disaster relief efforts.
