A Massachusetts clinical social worker faces charges of larceny and fraud for allegedly scamming health benefits.
Kathleen McGovern, 63, has been charged with 38 counts of larceny over $250 and one count of making false statements in applications for payment of health benefits. Prosecutors said that between 2011 and 2017, McGovern billed New England Health for therapeutic sessions that never took place.
According to a MassLive.com report, investigators spoke to all 38 patients McGovern claimed to have treated and billed the insurer for. All 38 corroborated the state’s charges.
Investigators said that McGovern scammed a total of about $125,000 in payments from Health New England.
