The Port of Los Angeles bustled as it handled 5.9% more overall cargo volumes in the first half of 2016 compared to the same period last year.

Year to date volumes hit 4.13 million TEUs this year compared to 3.9 million TEUs last year.

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka said in a statement that they are “encouraged” by the growth, despite the slow activity registered specifically in June.

Cargo volume in the California port dipped by 6.3% in June, while imports saw a similar 3.5% decrease to 355,622 TEUs.

Last month, the Port of Los Angeles got approval for a $1.17 billion 2016-2017 fiscal year budget to cover the implementation cost of its five-year strategic plan through 2017. The plan includes infrastructure development; evolving an efficient, secure and sustainable supply chain; enhancing fiscal performance through better asset; and stakeholder relationship management.
