Markel has officially announced the promotion of David Roos (pictured above) to senior director, property and marine for Markel Specialty’s Wholesale Southeast region.
The move sees Roos taking charge of leading the Southeast Wholesale property and marine teams, as well as offering solutions and services to trading partners in the region.
Bringing over a decade of experience in the insurance sector to his new role, Roos’s journey at Markel began in 2017.
His most recent position within the company involved serving as director of underwriting and production for Markel’s construction practice, where he focused on facilitating large builder’s risk projects. His tenure also includes significant contributions within inland marine, particularly in managing the Southeast region’s inland and ocean marine team.
Prior to Markel, Roos spent almost four years with The Hanover and its marine practice. He also held underwriting roles at Zurich Insurance and Zurich Financial Services.
Steve Girard, regional president for the Southeast region at Markel, expressed confidence in Roos’ capabilities.
“At Markel, we pride ourselves on developing deep benches of underwriting talent like David,” Girard said. “David’s industry experience and expertise will help us continue to focus on growing our property and marine product lines profitably.”
Roos will be directly reporting to Girard in his new role and will operate out of Markel’s Alpharetta, GA office.
In its latest financial results, the insurer announced that it returned to profit in 2023 after losses in 2022.
