Harford Mutual Insurance Group announced it donated more than $560,000 to over 80 nonprofit and charitable organizations throughout 2024 as part of its HMIG Gives Back Program.
The company’s contributions focused on supporting health and human services initiatives and community enrichment efforts.
Significant donations were made to several local organizations, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties, Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna, Harford Family House, The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region, University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation, and United Way of Central Maryland.
In response to the widespread destruction caused by Hurricane Helene in the southeastern United States, Harford Mutual contributed $85,000 to disaster relief efforts.
The funds were distributed to United Way chapters in Asheville and Buncombe County, North Carolina; Greenville County, South Carolina; and the CSRA region of Georgia, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting communities during times of crisis.
Additionally, through the HMIG Community Fund managed by the Community Foundation of Harford County, more than $117,000 was allocated to nonprofits. This funding supported organizations such as First Fruits Farm, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties, the Harford Community College Foundation, and Steppingstone Farm Museum.
The company also provided financial support through its Employee Match Program and the Flagship Agency Grant Program, which awards $1,000 grants to nonprofits selected by Harford Mutual’s Flagship agencies.
Harford Mutual said that its employees contributed nearly 800 volunteer hours to various nonprofit organizations throughout the year, further demonstrating the company’s engagement in community support initiatives.
Earlier this month, the insurance group also appointed Shane Crockett as vice president and chief underwriting officer.
Crockett, who has more than 15 years of experience in insurance underwriting, most recently served as senior director, underwriting and production, agriculture for Markel, a global specialty insurance provider. Prior to that, he held various roles at Liberty Mutual, including vice president, regional underwriting manager for the mid-Atlantic region.
In his new role, Crockett will supervise all of Harford’s underwriting business units, focusing on driving profitability and growth.
