New York attorney general Eric Schneiderman recently ordered the Donald J. Trump Foundation to cease fundraising operations in the state.

A letter sent to the foundation stipulates that failure to comply with the order and provide the office with pertinent documents would be tantamount to “fraud.”

Further, James G. Sheehan, chief of the New York State Office of the Attorney General’s (NYAG) Charities Bureau, told foundation representatives in a September 30 communique that the foundation has been found to be in violation of section 172 of Article 7-A of New York’s Executive Law.

The said rule specifically requires organizations soliciting charitable contributions in New York to register with the bureau and provide annual financial reports and audited financial documents. Trump Foundation was found to have engaged in fundraising activities despite not being registered for the year 2016.

According to the letter, Sheehan ordered Trump Foundation to stop in its solicitations in New York and notify third parties raising funds on its behalf to stop such efforts immediately.

Further, the foundation was given 15 days to comply with the rule it was said to have violated by providing the necessary information.
