“Progress in the most impoverished parts of our world enriches us all,” said President Barack Obama during the recent White House Summit on Global Development, according to reports.

Further, Obama said that continued investment in overseas development is also an investment in national security because it puts the US “in a better position to protect our country, and improve our country.”

He also announced his approval of the Global Food Security Act, which aligns US assistance with country owned initiatives by extending help to small scale producers, whose growth and progress are priorities of the program.

It also aims to promote global food security through the development of food and nutrition security strategies. The measure was enacted by Congress earlier this year.

And as the presidential election approaches, experts lauded the current administration’s initiatives, which can be sustained by the country’s next chief executive. Specifically, Obama and his staff have initiated the framework for further development in areas such as food security, global health, and peace and order in civil society.

Similarly, the summit report noted that Obama built on his predecessor President George W. Bush’s legacy initiative, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), which focused on combating the spread of HIV in the African continent.
