Brit grows specialty liability offering with two new hires

Brit has announced two appointments to its Brit Global Specialty USA (BGSU) professional liability team. Tom Rea has been named senior vice president of miscellaneous professional liability, while Jim Kelly has been named assistant vice president of construction professional.

Rea joined BGSU in April. He is based in Glastonberry, Conn., and reports to Tom Bongi, senior vice of professional liability at BGSU. In his new role, Rea will focus on writing miscellaneous professional liability for US-domiciled companies through wholesale intermediaries. Rea has more than 15 years of experience in growing and leading professional liability underwriting teams. Prior to coming to BGSU, he worked as vice president of professional liability at Hiscox USA.

Kelly comes to Brit from The Hartford, where he served as an executive underwriter in the construction professional unit. He has also worked for XL Catlin. In his role at BGSU, Kelly will report to Rich Hartman, senior vice president of construction professional.

“We are pleased to announce these additional high-caliber hires to our rapidly growing professional lines business,” said Nick Davies, president of Brit Americas. “Tom brings outstanding nationwide experience and relationships in the miscellaneous professional liability market, while Jim’s reputation for expertise in professional liability risks for contractors and design professionals is well deserved.”

“We have added a number of talented underwriters to our US team in recent months, and we are pleased by the rapid progress being made by BGSU’s professional lines team since it was established last year under Tom Bongi’s leaderships,” said Matthew Wilson, CEO of Brit. “These appointments further strengthen the depth of talent we have in our business and are a good demonstration of our continued successful growth strategy for BGSU.”
