Leading carrier enters SME space

A major US insurer announced plans to create a small and medium enterprise division to target smaller commercial markets.

US insurer Ironshore Inc. announced plans last Thursday to create a Small and Medium Enterprise division, with the intent of targeting small and middle market risks in the commercial insurance sector.
Shaun Kelly, President and CEO of Ironshore US Operations, said the expansion will increase Ironshore’s footprint in the SME space.

“Ironshore is committed to pursuing innovated avenues for deliver insurance solutions to the current and next generation of insurance buyers in the small to middle market sector,” Kelly commented. “We are building a dedicated team to focus on the most efficient process for providing distinctive coverage options to this specialty segment of the commercial marketplace.”

As part of its launch, Ironshore will be enhancing program offerings through a technology-driven distribution platform. The platform is meant to provide decision makers “with an accessible, streamlined approach for comparing and securing insurance coverage specific to small and middle market business exposures,” the company said.

The division will be led by Erin Calvey, who will be responsible for the strategic development and management of Ironshore’s SME platform.  Calvey most recently held the position of Senior Vice President of Strategic Broker Relations and Operations Manager to the US Field Operations team.
