The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, one of the country’s largest mutual life insurers and a provider of disability insurance and employee benefits, has announced the election of Karen B. Peetz to its board of directors.

Peetz also serves on the boards of Ingersoll Rand, Johns Hopkins University and the Global Lyme Alliance. She is the retired president of The Bank of New York Mellon. Prior to her appointment as president in 2013, Peetz served as head of BNY Mellon’s financial markets and Treasury services group. She has also served in leadership roles at JPMorgan Chase.

“Karen’s client, human resources and innovation experience, together with her knowledge of financial markets and oversight, will bring great value to Guardian,” said Deanna Mulligan, Guardian president and CEO. “We look forward to her strategic insights as she joins our esteemed board of directors.”
